Football Index: 3 Players Worth Promoting Episode 2
After the success of our previous article in this series, in which we suggested three players who would be well worth promoting into the first team, we thought now would be a good time to pick out a few more.
Previously, we suggested Dries Mertens, who promptly jumped from 34th on the Squad list to being promoted in less than 12 hours after the article was released! He had a great promotion day, reaching a high point of 96p and currently sits around the high 80's. We also suggested Kasper Dolberg who has since come very close to promotion and currently sits in 1st place. Surely his appearance on the Index 1st Team is just around the corner.
Timo Werner - Liverpool
Let's kick things off with an exciting player in the Bundesliga, Timo Werner who is sitting in 44th place on the squad list. The 21 year old German striker currently players for RB Leipzig where he's notched an impressive 15 goals so far this season. When leaving Stuttgart in 2016 to join Leipzig, Werner was linked with a number of Premier League clubs so it's no surprise to see him being mentioned once again as the summer transfer window approaches.
Werner is most heavily linked with Liverpool and as a very versatile attacking player, he would certainly fit the bill as a Klopp type of signing. Hard working and full of pace, Werner could offer a very viable and affordable option for Liverpool as they look to replace Sturridge with someone who much better fits their style of play.
At 21 and an exciting prospect for both club and country, we think Werner would be an excellent addition to the 1st team for this summer's transfer speculation.
Max Meyer - Tottenham and Liverpool
Sticking with exciting young Germans, next on our list is Max Meyer who is 95th on the squad list. Currently playing for Schalke, Meyer has long been linked with Tottenham and with his style of play, we can certainly see how Pochettino would love to have him at Spurs.
As an attacking midfielder who can also drift out wide, his versatility is something that meets the requirements for a place in the Tottenham midfield. With rumours that Erik Lamela's days are numbered, he would offer a very exciting option as his replacement.
Meyer has also recently been linked with Liverpool and again we can easily see that he's a player Klopp would be eager to get into his fearsome attacking lineup. Also at just 21 and already linked with prominent Premier League clubs, we think Meyer should be much higher up the squad list.
Naby Keita Tottenham, Chelsea, Man United, Bayern Munich
Finally, we head back to RB Leipzig to look at Naby Keita who is way down the list in 292nd place! The Guinean midfielder can cover all central midfield positions and has helped himself to an impressive 7 goals and 7 assists so far this season.
At 22 years of age, Keita is already making big waves and turning heads as links to German rivals Bayern Munich are appearing. For a player to be linked with Bayern, it's no surprise that a number of Premier League teams are also looking at Keita as someone they would very much like to sign.
Most notable are Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham - 3 clubs who would certainly benefit from having a player such as Keita in their side. With Chelsea probably looking to replace Matic and Fabregas this summer, Keita may offer an alternative to Bakayoko who we looked at in our recent Chelsea Transfer Rumour special video.
Manchester United are undoubtedly in need of a strong central midfielder to help bring out the best in Pogba so a move to Old Trafford would also make a lot of sense.
As we have seen in the past, when two giant clubs get into a battle over a player, it can bring with it a lot of media attention - perfect for the Football Index!
So there we go, three players who we think deserve to be much higher up the squad list at the very least. They should certainly bring transfer speculation in the summer and with the Index heading in that direction as people look to invest in potential media targets, they are definitely players to keep in mind.
